Online GlobalEdCon Presentation, Nov. 2011. Fostering Global Awareness Using Travel Literature and Other Primary Sources This session will be an introduction to using travel literature to promote global awareness and global connections. This global content enables students to compare and contrast their own regions and cultures with other areas of the world. Possibilities for virtual travel, student-created blogs and discussion groups, and collaboration with students in other regions of the world will be discussed. Ideas for promoting students' understanding of contemporary and historical geography in a global context will be shared: travel blogs, digital stories, and interactive sites enable global dialogue and cultural understanding; Google Maps & Google Earth host global content such as an interactive map of geotagged primary sources; and student-created blogs, digital images, and maps authentically assess students' understanding of global geography and culture. This session is recommended for anyone who is interested in promoting global cultural awareness through the concept of travel in Social Studies, Literacy, or English Language Arts classes. While examples of specific projects will be included in this session, its primary focus will be to share ideas for global collaboration using 21st century skills and web tools. Students who travel via literature will see their world expand and will become more aware that they are global citizens.

Why Culture Can Be More Important Than Your Creative. There comes a point in most creative firms where the work that your company is producing is credible enough that it speaks for itself; no one questions that the firm is talented and capable of handling most projects. In these periods of a company's creative development, the measure for whether or not a client wants to work with you is no longer predicated on how well you design—the decision becomes predicated on whether or not the firm is a "cultural fit." Rule29's, Justin Ahrens, explores why a company's culture is potentially the most important (and most elusive) element for success in the design (or any) industry and how to go about fostering the kind of company culture that employees want to be a part of and that clients want to work with.

In BC’s nearly-decade-old “new” curriculum, the curricular competencies describe the processes that students are expected to develop in areas of learning such as mathematics. They reflect the “Do” in the “Know-Do-Understand” model. Under the “Communicating” header falls the curricular competency “Explain and justify mathematical ideas and decisions.” Note that it contains two processes: “Explain mathematical ideas” and “Justify mathematical decisions.” I have broken it down into its separate parts in order to understand--or reveal--its meaning. The first part is commonplace in classrooms. By now, BC math teachers—and students—understand that “Explain mathematical ideas” means more than “Show your work.” Teachers consistently ask “What did you do?” and “How do you know?” This process is about retelling, not just of steps but of thinking. The second part happens less frequently. Think back to the last time that you observed a student make—a necessary precursor to justify—a mathematical decision. “Justify” is about defending. Like “explain,” it involves reasoning; unlike “explain,” it also involves opinion and debate. In order to reinterpret the curricular competency “Explain and justify mathematical ideas and decisions,” I will continue to take apart its constituent part “Justify mathematical decisions” and carefully examine the term “mathematical decisions.” What, exactly, is a “mathematical decision”? Below, I will categorize answers to this question. These categories, and the provided examples, may help to suggest new opportunities for students to justify.

Mixin classes are helpful for developers to extend the models. Using these classes helps to modify fields, methods and other functionalities of models without directly changing the base models. This slide will show how to extend models using mixin classes in odoo 17.
