This document provides guidance on building finger technique and dexterity for string instruments. It recommends warming up for 20 minutes daily and focusing practice on technique exercises using the third and fourth fingers. Exercises should be practiced in small segments and a goal accomplished before moving on. Differences between violin/viola and cello/bass fingering are outlined, and an effective practice session structure is proposed that includes warming up, technique, repertoire, sight reading, and goal setting.
