2. Target Audience The target audience for our short film are anyone particularly interested in new and innovative short films. We hope that our film will target the mass market for short films and in result be a popular choice to be shown on popular short film WebPages such as the smalls, along with many short film festivals. The age group we will be target will be age 16+. This is because of the complex narrative and plot, we are hoping that our film evokes a lot of thought and leaves the audience with many questions they wish to find out. The gender of our target audience would be females due to genre being a chic-flick hybrid although due to the complex narrative and this film being a very modern and individual take on the short film scene we think it will appeal to both genders.
3. Synopsis Scene One: On screen shows the date which is two days earlier. A woman (Isabel) is stood at a mans (Ben) door, we see him open the door, they both begin to cry but look relieved and happy. Scene Two: The date goes back to present day. Isabel wakes up on a life support machine after being in a coma. The doctor breaks the news that she had been in an accident and the man she was with has died and she was in a coma. She can’t recall anything from the accident or the whole day the accident took place. Scene Three: When laid in hospital she checks her laptop and sees she has emails from a man she was talking to a few weeks before the accident (Simon). When she looks at the date of the accident she had been asked by Simon to see him that night. She has a flashback to the night of the accident, her and Simon are drinking in a bar and she is ignoring phone calls from Ben. Scene Four: She asks the doctor whether the accident had been placed on the internet and then searches through the BBC website to find the crash article. She has another flashback of them getting in a car and her begging Simon not to drive because he had been drinking.
4. She was still receiving phone calls from Ben and still ignoring them. Scene Five: She slams her laptop down and begins to cry. Her mobile is full of voicemails from Ben telling her her loves her. She climbs out of her hospital bed and runs out of the main doors. Scene Six: Isabel shows up at Bens house, realise they should be together. (Same as first scene) We have chosen this idea as it reflects the romance/chick flick genre we are aiming for. It suggests the romance theme through the woman finding love within her best friend. We think this idea will successfully attract our target audience of mainly females aged 16+ because teenage girls usually love a ‘cute’ romantic storyline. This idea includes the themes of time and technology….
5. Genre and Comparative Texts: Our film genre is a typical ‘Chick Flick’ hybridstructured film. You could also say it falls under the genre ‘Romance’. The film ‘13 going on 30’, also has the same genre as our film and also has one of the same kind of story line. In our film Isabel is with a guy called Simon who is not a nice person, whilst her best friend Ben has feelings for her. Isabel does not realize this at first then when she finds out she starts to realize she also has the same feelings towards Ben. Which is similar in the film ‘13 going on 30’ when Jenna is best friends with Matt who has feelings for her but Jenna does not share them back until she turns 30 and starts spending time with Matt but it is too late as he is engaged to someone else. However, once she turns back 13 she realizes and her and Matt are finally together. This film also uses time as a main factor in the film, as the go forward in time to when Jenna is 30. Time is also a factor in ours when Isabel is on life support and goes back to before her accident happened and remembers what has happened to her.
