Interactive Powerpoint_How to Master effective communication
Blended Design: Active learning
1. Active Learning
“We might think of active learning as an approach
to instruction in which students engage the
material they study through
reading, writing, talking, listening, and reflecting.
Active learning stands in contrast to "standard"
modes of instruction in which teachers do most of
the talking and students are passive.”

2. Quality Matters
Learner Interaction and Engagement
5.2 Learning activities provide opportunities for
interaction that support active learning.
Types of interaction include student-instructor, student-content,
student-student. Active learning involves students engaging by
“doing” something, such as discovering, processing or applying
concepts and information. Active learning implies guiding students
to increasing levels of responsibility for their own learning.
4. Outcomes
The learner will be able to… demonstrate
understanding / knowledge by…
Doing what?
What are the deliverables (artifacts)?
How will we assess / evaluate the learning?

7. Web 2.0
A Web 2.0 site allows users to interact and
collaborate with each other in a social media
dialogue as creators (prosumers) of user-
generated content in a virtual community, in
contrast to websites where users (consumers) are
limited to the passive viewing of content that was
created for them.

10. Blackboard Groups & Assignments
• Assignment for the next couple of weeks:
• Participate in a group that will develop a
learning experience related to blended
learning. Create a pre-classroom activity,
classroom activity, and post classroom activity
to support one or more learning outcomes.
Post the pre-activity assignment by adding a
thread to unit three discussion area.
