3. Mitosis Couch
by Philip Quiros
for ZERO1
This innovative project is more than a
piece of furniture. It is a poetic expression
about yearning to be something more.
The couch represents a wing chair
dreaming to become something it is not,
and â as it is stretched and pulled to its
breaking point â it finds that it can be only
be what it has always been: a wing chair.
The objective was to use a piece of furni-
ture to express humanityâs desire to trans-
form itself â however Philip Quiros took
it a step further and built a beautiful and
thought provoking couch that can actually
sit two people quite comfortably - blending
function with poetry through the magic of
design and innovation.

4. XStat
by Ziba
for RevMedx
Despite better body armor, bleeding to
death remains a leading killer of soldiers on
the battlefield. To save those with deep,
noncompressible hemorrhages, Army med-
ics needed a fast, foolproof solution that
left their hands free to return fire or assist
other wounded. Startup RevMedx had part
of the solution, but needed help making it
real.
Ziba designed the right delivery mechanism
for RevMedxâs revolutionary bleeding solu-
tion: XStat. A one-handed applicator
deploys compressed sponges, quickly and
reliably, without tools or setup. XStat stops
life-or-death bleeding in 15 seconds, with
no need for continued manual pressure.

5. Renovo R5 Aero
by Ken Wheeler
for Renovo Bicycles
This innovative bike features a lightweight,
hollow, un-reinforced hardwood frame. The
outer wood on this bike is wenge, the inner
is fiddleback maple, stained gray.
The R5 Aero is the road version of the
popular triathlon frame featuring Renovoâs
buttery-smooth yet carbon stiff and quiet
ride quality. This combination is unequaled
by any other frame material because wood
is a natural shock absorber.
The R5 features an aerodynamic seatmast
and downtube, aero-shrouded rear wheel,
internal headset and internal cabling or
electronic shift wiring.

6. Salt and Pepper Mills
by Scot Herbst
for Slice
As opposed to most other mills, this sim-
ple, yet recolutionary vessel design allows
you to elegantly pour the salt or pepper on
your food â avoiding residue on the table.
Additionally, the mill is made with a dia-
mond-shape ceramic grinding mechanism
that never rusts, is non-allergenic, odor free
and exceptionally hygienic.

7. Dropp! Bowl
by Niels Romer
for MENU
This silicon bowl has attitude and is an
intriguing alternative to traditional think-
ing â designed to serve fruit or bread in an
innovative new way or simply function as
a decorative container for keys, coins, and
stuff.
The unconventional shape of the bowl orig-
inates from the image of a splash of paint
frozen in time. Dropp! has a smooth shiny
inside and a mat cool outside.

9. Nike Free Flyknit
by Nike Labs
for Nike
The Flyknit Racer, featherlight shoes feel
more like a sock atop a sole. Created from
knit threading rather than multiple layers of
fabric, this revolutionary design required a
complete rethink of Nikeâs manufacturing
process. The result is a shoe thatâs more
environmentally friendly and could reduce
long-term production costs. Nike Free
Flyknit was developed in close collabora-
tion with Nike Sport Reseach Lab, a group
of Nike scientists who focus on physiology,
biomechanics, perception, and athlete per-
formance to inform product development.

10. Photo Anagram
by Ken Holden
with BeMUZE
Ken Holden developed BeMUZE,
an iPhone app to provide a creative
playground for anyone to explore
pattern formation from any photograph.
In this example, Ken started with a photo
of moss covered branches, and using the
BeMUZE app, he transformed the simple
picture into a geometrically complex
pattern that is both organic as well as
precisely engineered. The app allows users
of any age, cultural background, or talent
level to create sophisticated designs
without the need of artistic or technical
knowledge. The innovative BeMUZE app
serves to demistify design complexity
through a simple and elegant user
interface. The app is being used to
generate patterns for a wide variety of
applications from corporate branding to
museum artwork.

our quality of life through the simple use

by Jessica Rosenkrantz and
Jesse Louis-Rosenberg

Nervous System is an experimental design
studio that works at the intersection of
science, art, and technology. Drawing
inspiration from natural phenomena, they
write computer programs based on pro-
cesses and patterns found in nature and
use those programs to create unique and

13. Adaptation of a copy
of a 4th century B.C.
Greek statue

1:7 Scale model kit
Nylon 3D Print
2013
3D scanned data derived from 26 digital
images of the copy found in the MET and
modeled using a 3D computer graphics
program.
The sinuous leaning pose of this youth

Pothos, the personification of erotic
longing, that was much copied in the
Roman period.

16. Victory Font
by Plazm Design: Gus Nicklos,
Joshua Berger, and Pete McCracken
for Nike
Victory is Nikeâs official corporate font. Prior
to its development Nike utilized Futura
and Avenir as their primary typographic
identity. Victory takes inspiration from both
faces but uniquely embodies characteris-
tics of the brand for which it was designed.
As Nike states so eloquently in their brand
manual: âItâs not about telling you what to
say. Itâs about providing a common lan-
guage with which to say it.â With the
Victory font, that is just what Plazm did.

18. We're a Brand Experience agency. We develop holistic brand
experiences that help propel business forward. We do this by
working with our clients in a highly collaborative way that embraces
experimentation, curiosity and big thinking.
Approach
We got our start in Silicon Valleyâa place that has
taught us to embrace innovation and inspired us to
develop new methodologies and new tools. We call
our approach Silicon Valley Thinking. More than just a
new buzzword, Silicon Valley Thinking blends strategy,
creativity and technology to create solutions that are
more agile, innovative, efficient and effective.
Services
Starting with brand at the core, our services address
the brand experience opportunities across key internal
and external touch points. Our core strategic services
are designed to help companies define and articulate
the brand's purpose, structure and differentiation. From
there, we focus on key experience touch points that
include customer interactions, employee cultures, as
well as product and service experiences.
Projects
We've helped our clients launch new brands, or
refresh brands that need to be infused with new
energy. We also work with companies to create
employee cultures that foster innovation and
collaboration. We help design new products and
service experiences; create packaging systems;
craft retail merchandising solutions; develop
sophisticated digital experiences; and design
physical environments such as museums, trade
show exhibits, and corporate offices. What is
important is that regardless of what we're doing for
our clients, we approach the work with the goal of
creating amazing brand experiences. Because thatâs
how you build amazing brands.
