There is not one model for the delivery of quality and effective substance use disorders treatment and recovery support services in rural areas. However, there are themes emerging from the scientific literature as well as from rural treatment providers implementing new services. These themes/strategies include: use of technology and web-based services; offering recovery support services by telephone or web-based portal systems without initial substance abuse treatment services; and providing flexible service delivery, integrated care, and Project ECHO-like models. Most importantly, a successful substance abuse treatment model for rural areas does not include just one intervention, but rather a combination of the interventions that fit the community and the patient population. Join the NFAR ATTC in this podcast series that includes: exploring rural/remote issues regarding SUDs; highlighting the use of technology in recovery support services both informal and formal strategies; and an update on technology-based interventions for individuals with SUDs or at risk for these conditions. Presenter: Nancy A. Roget, MS, MFT, LADC PI/Project Director NFAR ATTC

Zaid Hjab college of health and medical technology - baghdad/Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department Alcohol is the most commonly abused substance in most parts of the world and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. While common in the general population, alcohol use disorders are even more frequent in hospital patients, including 25%–50% of medical-surgical patients and up to 50%–60% of psychiatric inpatients in some settings. People who misuse alcohol are commonly referred to as “alcoholic” by the lay public. There are two to three men for each woman with an alcohol use disorder, and the usual age at onset is between ages 16 and 30. Onset is earlier in men than women, although the medical complications progress more rapidly in women. People in certain occupations are prone to alcohol use disorder, including bartenders, construction workers, and writers. Other groups prone to alcoholism include individuals who use tobacco; those with mood and anxiety disorders; those with antisocial personality disorder; and those with a gambling disorder.

Drug rehabilitation is a crucial process for individuals who struggle with addiction. An effective drug rehabilitation program typically involves several key components, including detoxification, behavioral therapy, medication-assisted treatment, and aftercare support. One of the most important aspects of drug rehabilitation is detoxification, which involves clearing the body of any remaining drugs or alcohol. Detoxification can be a challenging and uncomfortable process, and it's important that individuals undergo this process under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional.Once detoxification is complete, the individual can begin participating in behavioral therapy. This type of therapy can take multiple forms, including individual counseling, group therapy, and family therapy. The goal of behavioral therapy is to help individuals identify the root causes of their addiction, develop coping strategies, and learn new skills and behaviors to support their recovery. Medication-assisted treatment is another meaningful factor in drug rehabilitation. This involves the use of medications, such as methadone or buprenorphine, to help individuals manage withdrawal symptoms and reduce cravings. These drugs are very effective when combined with behavioral therapy. Aftercare support is also a critical component of drug rehabilitation. This may include ongoing counseling or therapy, participation in support groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous, and continued medication management. Overall, drug rehabilitation is a complex and challenging process that requires a comprehensive and individualized approach. By addressing the physical, emotional, and psychological aspects of addiction, individuals can achieve long-term recovery and lead healthy, fulfilling lives. Introduction Drug addiction is a complex and challenging condition that affects millions of individuals around the world. Addiction can cause significant physical, psychological, and social harm, and can be difficult to overcome without professional help. Fortunately, drug rehabilitation programs are available to help individuals overcome addiction and achieve lasting recovery. In this article, we will explore the key components of drug rehabilitation, including detoxification, behavioral therapy, medication-assisted treatment, and aftercare support. We will also discuss the challenges and benefits of drug rehabilitation, as well as the different types of rehabilitation programs that are available. Detoxification Detoxification is typically the first step in drug rehabilitation. This process involves clearing the body of any remaining drugs or alcohol and can be a challenging and uncomfortable process. Detoxification can take place in a variety of settings, including hospitals, detox centers, and residential treatment facilities. One of the most important aspects of detoxification is that it should be conducted under the supervision of qualified healthcare professional

Drug addiction is a complex illness characterized by intense and, at times, uncontrollable drug craving, along with compulsive drug seeking and use that persist even in the face of devastating consequences. While the path to drug addiction begins with the voluntary act of taking drugs, over time a person's ability to choose not to do so becomes compromised, and seeking and consuming the drug becomes compulsive. This behavior results largely from the effects of prolonged drug exposure on brain functioning. Addiction is a brain disease that affects multiple brain circuits, including those involved in reward and motivation, learning and memory, and inhibitory control over behavior. Because drug abuse and addiction have so many dimensions and disrupt so many aspects of an individual's life, treatment is not simple. Effective treatment programs typically incorporate many components, each directed to a particular aspect of the illness and its consequences. Addiction treatment must help the individual stop using drugs, maintain a drug-free lifestyle, and achieve productive functioning in the family, at work, and in society. Because addiction is typically a chronic disease, people cannot simply stop using drugs for a few days and be cured. Most patients require long-term or repeated episodes of care to achieve the ultimate goal of sustained abstinence and recovery of their lives. Too often, addiction goes untreated: According to SAMHSA's National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), 23.2 million persons (9.4 percent of the U.S. population) aged 12 or older needed treatment for an illicit drug or alcohol use problem in 2007. Of these individuals, 2.4 million (10.4 percent of those who needed treatment) received treatment at a specialty facility (i.e., hospital, drug or alcohol rehabilitation or mental health center). Thus, 20.8 million persons (8.4 percent of the population aged 12 or older) needed treatment for an illicit drug or alcohol use problem but did not receive it. These estimates are similar to those in previous years.

Addiction and substance abuse are pervasive issues with far-reaching consequences that impact individuals, families, and communities. This complex phenomenon involves compulsive and harmful patterns of drug or alcohol use, leading to physical, psychological, and social impairments. From alcoholism to opioid dependence, substance abuse can infiltrate lives, affecting personal relationships, work performance, and overall well-being. Effective treatment for addiction and substance abuse is essential to address the root causes and support individuals on their path to recovery. Various evidence-based therapies, such as Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI), offer valuable tools to challenge negative thought patterns, enhance motivation, and cultivate coping strategies. Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) can also play a crucial role in managing withdrawal symptoms and supporting long-term sobriety. Furthermore, supportive services like individual and group counseling, peer support groups, and family therapy provide crucial emotional and social support for those navigating the challenges of addiction. Holistic case management helps individuals access essential resources, such as housing, healthcare, and employment assistance, to foster a comprehensive approach to recovery. Prevention efforts, including education and awareness campaigns, are equally vital to combat the rise of addiction and substance abuse. By understanding the underlying factors contributing to addiction, addressing societal stigmas, and promoting early intervention, we can work towards breaking the chains of addiction and building healthier, more resilient communities.

Psychology of Addiction Introduction Addiction is an intricate illness characterized by intense and uncontrollable craving of something commonly drugs which is usually accompanied by devastating consequences. At initial stages individuals take the drugs voluntarily but over time, their ability to stay away from drugs becomes compromised and it forces them to seek, find and consume them. Addiction is a brain disease caused by prolonged exposure of drugs on brain functioning. It affects a number brain channels, including those involved in memory and learning, reward and motivation and inhibitory control over behaviors (source/citation?). (This is very specific information that due to the clinical nature necessarily came from one of your sources and/or is not common knowledge. As such a citation is required.) Treatment of drug abuse and addiction is not simple owing to the fact that addiction is diverse and affects many aspects in an individual’s life. This paper is going to address various models that describe effective etiology of addiction. An addicted person should be helped by the treatment to cease drug abuse, maintain a lifestyle that is drug free and be a productive and responsible member of the society. Because addiction is a chronic disease, victims require long-term care to achieve the definitive goal of permanent abstinence and resurgence of their lives (Booth, 1997). Effective treatment models (The topic of this paper was models that describe etiology of addiction rather than treatment.) Combination of medication and behavioral therapy plays a major role in overall addiction treatment process that usually commences with detoxification, followed by treatment and prevention of relapse. The following models describe how the overall addiction treatment process can be conducted to render the victims drug-free lives (source/citation?). Medications model The detoxification stage of medications helps in repressing withdrawal symptoms. However, patients who are medically assisted to handle withdrawals and left at that stage often abuse drugs just like those who were never treated. Medication can be used to help diminish cravings, prevent relapse and restore normal brain functioning. There are medications for alcohol addiction, opioids, tobacco, stimulants and even cannabis (marijuana) (source/citation?). Opioids: Buprenorphine, methadone and, for some patients, naltrexone are effective drugs for opiate addiction treatment. These medications act on the same points in the brain as morphine and heroine and therefore they suppress all withdrawals and stop that strong urge to consume them. The patients are helped by the medications to extricate from drug seeking and related unlawful behavior (source/citation?). There are three medications approved for treatment of alcohol addiction: acamprosate, disulfiram and naltrexone. The latter inhibits opioid receptors that are concerned with effects of a ...

Discover the Kisan Call Centre: Your Gateway to Agricultural Assistance KISAN CALL CENTRE In order to harness the potential of ICT in Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare launched the scheme “Kisan Call Centres” (KCCs) on January 21, 2004. Main aim of the scheme is to answer farmers’ queries on a telephone call in their own language. These call centres are working in 21 different locations in the country covering all the States and UTs. A countrywide common eleven digit Toll Free Number 1800-180-1551 has been allotted for Kisan Call Centre. This number is accessible through mobile phones and landlines of all telecom networks including private service providers. Replies to the farmers’ queries are given in 22 local languages. Kisan Call Centre services are available from 6.00 AM to 10.00 PM on all seven days of the week at each KCC location. Kisan Call Centre agents known as Farm Tele Advisors (FTAs), who are graduate or above (i.e. PG or Doctorate) in Agriculture or allied sectors (Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Poultry, Bee-Keeping, Sericulture, Aquaculture, Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Marketing, Bio-Technology, Home Science, etc.) and possess excellent communication skills in respective local language. Queries which cannot be answered by FTAs are transferred to higher level experts. These experts are Subject Matter Specialists (SMSs) of State Departments of Agriculture (SDAs), ICAR Institutes, KVKs and State Agricultural Universities (SAUs). A Kisan Knowledge Management System (KKMS) has been developed to capture all the details of the caller and sending gist of answer given through SMS. KKMS has its independent website : http://dackkms.gov.in. The KCC, FTAs working at various KCC locations throughout the country have access to this website through their specific IDs and password provided to them. Welcome to the Kisan Call Centre - your one-stop destination for agricultural assistance and support.
