Julia Butterfly Hill lived in a 180-foot tall, 600-year-old California redwood tree called Luna for over two years from 1997 to 1999 to prevent the tree from being cut down. She brought awareness to old-growth forest protection and became a symbol of non-violent civil disobedience. Her protest was successful and the tree was spared from being logged.
