Knowledges & World Views in a Critical Classroom - a journey of on-going inquiry
VIDEO seeing doing looking power knowing knowledge
- what you see is just the tip of the  iceberg
seeing doing looking power knowing knowledge
- a thinking activity on a piece of paper, answer these two questions: -what do you know about Aboriginal art? - what is the source of that knowledge?
…  do not reinforce our values, actions, customs, culture and identity;  when they tell us only about others they are saying that we do not exist;  they may be writing about us but are writing things which are untrue; &  they are writing about us but saying negative and insensitive things which tell us that we are not good.  (Gale in Smith, 1999 p. 35) books can be dangerous

Some examples in real life....  * plays only the national anthem at each assembly for a whole school year * does not acknowledge the traditional owners (at least at the start of the year) * does not celebrate NAIDOC week, * only recognises the 'famous' diggers at ANZAC * CRITICAL THINKING  FAIL
An example learning activity let's consider these two activities together Aboriginal Art - look at the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander flags - what do each of the colours/symbols mean? - create your own flag, using your own colours/symbols - explain what each colour/symbol means
An example learning activity Science - create a poster/interpretive sign providing visitor information (volcano or earthquake site) - should include: explanations, diagrams, labels, colourful & easy to read Embedding Indigenous Knowledge???
