School Finance Update: with Tools
The issue of adequate funding for our state’s
public schools has been widely debated in courts, for School Success
the legislature, and among citizens. At this year’s
training, you’ll receive basic information on how our
finance system works and on budget cuts and other
Training
changes that are impacting students and schools.
Special Education: Mashburn Construction Company, Inc.
Working with students with disabilities involves 1820 Sumter Street | Columbia, SC 29201
learning complex laws to help parents fully access
their student’s protections. This year, we will provide
training on developing effective Section 504 plans, Friday, March 9, 2012
utilizing other applicable laws to help students, and 9:00 am - 4:15 pm
offer other practical tips and tools.
Bullying:
Studies have shown that nearly one in five students
in an average classroom is experiencing bullying in
some way. Bullying of students has a wide-ranging
impact on the climate of the school and community.
You will receive practical training on how to work
with and advocate for students who are being
bullied.
Charter Schools:
These independent public schools are growing in
number and type across our state. Charters are
able to provide education in a more flexible and
regulation-free environment. At this year’s training,
charter school officials will provide an overview of
opportunities available to students.
Other Resources:
In these challenging economic times, where can
students and families turn for educational supports?
You will receive an up-to-date overview of programs
and services available to students in South Carolina
school districts, as well as a review of changing
education policies that impact the clients you serve.
*Please note that participating private attorneys, excluding
presenters, will be required to accept a pro bono case from the SC
Bar Pro Bono Program within the 12 month following this CLE. Any
attorney, who is contracted to accept a case and fails to fulfill his
obligation, will be charged the balance owed for the price of a SC
Bar CLE on their dues statement with the funds going to the SC Bar.
