Objectives
At the end of discussion the students will be
able to:
• illustrate what means to measure;
• describe the development of measurement
from the primitive to the present
international system of units; and
• identify and use the following prefixes in
the metric system: kilo-, hector-, deka-,
deci-, centi-, milli-.
MEASUREMENTS
During the ancient times, an
Egyptian carpenter never
misplaced his ruler because it
was attached to his body
Why do you think they never
missed they ruler? Do you have
any idea?
DIGIT
The thickness or width of
the index finger.
PALM
The distance across the base
of the four fingers that form
the palm.
SPAN
The distance from the tip of
the little finger to the tip of the
thumb of an outstretched hand.
CUBIT
The distance from the tip of the
middle finger of the outstretched
hand to the front of the elbow.
FOOT
The length of a foot.
