Welcome to the Learner Response System Presentation. In this session you will learn why Activexpressions are useful in the classroom.
This slide will be an introduction of the activexpressions with a video.
To begin understanding why Activexpressions were developed we need to look at the stages in which development occurs. First, in order for any innovation to occur a need must be present. Second, heavy research is conducted before the development process begins. Last, commercialization takes place when consumers are able to use the products.
The need for activexpressions came about when the activotes (also know as learner response systems) were created. This innovation sky rocketed learning in the classroom. The need for students to give more than just a multiple choice answer became the ultimate tool for assessing a student’s work.
Since Promethean pioneered the Activotes, it only made sense for them to improve their model. The need was that students should be able to express their answers in more than just a multiple choice format. Thus Logical Choice remains the retailer of Promethean products.
The development stage is the trial and error part of making sure the products work properly and is up to the standards in terms of quality. This means pulling everything together to make the product ready for commercialization in the K-12 environment.
The commercialization stage is adoption and diffusion of the product to the consumers.
Knowledge of the Activexpressions is acquired by the technology department attending conferences or teachers surfing the prometheanplanet.com site.
Who needs persuasion for Activexpressions in the classroom? Technology Director, Board Members, Principals, and Teachers.
Decisions to adopt or not adopt the activexpressions are weighed by the advantages and the disadvantages. The advantages are student achievement increases, motivation increases, and critical thinking skills increase as well. The disadvantages are cost for the devices and cost to train teachers to effectively use the devices.
In the 9th month of activexpressions emerging School 1 purchased 3 sets. In the 15th month School 2 purchased 25 sets. In the 30th month School 3 purchased 30 sets.
Innovators at our school help us keep up-to-date on the latest technology. We also help fellow co-workers that have difficulty with their computer skills.
There are 3 reasons why teachers reject an innovation. These people are called laggards and may include veteran teachers, teachers who fear technology, or teachers who are afraid of change.
What do all teachers need? Trailability, User friendly (not complexity), Compatibility, Observability, and most importantly the right amount of training!
Before I can be a change agent, I must gain approval from various supervisors before introducing the innovation to the staff.
After approval from the centralized component of the diffusion process, I will develop communication with the innovators of our school to pilot the activexpressions. Then after the pilot I will promote the activexpressions to the adoptors and the laggards or the remaining group of teachers.
My role as a change agent must be to motivate, teach, collaborate, and model how it can be done.
After this presentation on the activexpressions…..How will you help students express their learning in the 21st century?
Thank you for viewing this presentation and your consideration towards this great learning tool.
