2. Internet is a network of networks that consists of
millions of private, public, academic, business, and
government networks. Today, internet and its related
technologies like WWW (World Wide Web) have
resulted in the rapid proliferation of electronic
information. The various types of web resources like e-
journals; abstracting, indexing, e-books etc. are
procured by the library. Libraries having realised the
service of internet to provide better services to users,
have made their presence on the web.
3. OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY
The main objective of the study is to provide right
web resources to the right LIS Professionals with less
possible time.
5. Open Access is simply the free online availability of
digital data, figures, contents, and scholarly journal
articles, research results which authors/researchers
publish without expectation of payment and is based on
an ethical argument that research funded by the public
should be available onto public domain as natural
resources.
6. From the study it reveals that the web resources in the field of
Library and Information Science are vast / huge.

8. It shows that Open Access LIS journals are being
published in 34 different countries and United States is
in the 1st rank. It publishes 33 no. of open access journals
which is followed by Brazil and Spain with 15 and 10
journals respectively. The countries like Canada and
United Kingdom are in the 4th rank with 7 journals and
the country like Germany is in the 5th rank with 6 open
access journals. Cuba, France, Italy, Netherlands,
Sweden, Taiwan and Turkey having 3 no. of open access
journals. The countries like Croatia, Denmark, India
having 2 no. of open access journals. The countries like
Argentina, Australia, Bulgaria, Colombia, Czech
Republic, Egypt, Indonesia, New Zealand, Pakistan,
Peru, Poland, Puerto Rico, Romania, Slovenia and South
Africa, Switzerland having the least no. of open access
journals (i.e. only 1% of open access journal).
9. The study shows that maximum no. of web resources in the
field of LIS are produced from the developed countries.
A majority of links to the external resources are broken
which means a large no. of dead links are found.
The study found that Open Access LIS journals are being
published in 21 different languages on the web and English
language is in the 1st rank with 85 journals out of total
journals.
Many organizations are providing user’s statistics in their
websites which shows that the web resources in the field of
LIS are very much used by the users.
10. The concept of “web resource” is being used
interchangeably synonymous with online resource, digital
resource and e-resources. Web based information system
discussed development of digital and web resources, role of
HTML, knowledge organization systems, new modes of
understanding to the digital library, multilingual access, free
text searching and implementation of knowledge
organization system. Web based information system
including e-mail which is never thought as medium of
personal correspondence. This study attempts to organize
the resources in the field of Library and Information
Science which are available on the web.
