When the Sun Shines Poetry By Ms. Lear
5 W’s Poems Denver Nugget’s “Mello” Slam dunked the ball At the NBA finals From half court So he could give his teammates a sweaty high five. The superhero Flew like lightening Across the land In two quick seconds Because he needed to save the children from the vicious dragon. The gnarly snowboarder Did an awesome 920 kick and then fell Yesterday afternoon On Mt. Everest Because of the deep powdery snow. Taylor Swift Sang sweet songs to Izzy and her sister In the shank of the evening At a sold out show in Denver Because they paid big bucks to go.

Free Verse I am Irritation Lonely, I am fingernails on a chalkboard A bun without a hamburger A student who will not listen The last pickle in a jar I am a fork on a porcelain plate A table without a chair. Aluminum foil on a filling I am a snowstorm in June. I am scared. I am a lemon being squeezed into steaming hot tea. I am hungry. I am a vacuum cleaner that has never been used. Crazy, I am a policeman giving myself a ticket.
Free Verse How to be a Garter Snake Learn to catch insects, to eat insects. Learn to bite people, to get out of danger. Learn to siss when you get mad, not to make crackly sounds so people don’t hear you. Learn to get out of old skin.
Free Verse IF I WERE IN CHARGE OF THE WORLD   If I were in charge of the world I’d cancel brussel sprouts, Monday mornings, Allergy shots, and also South Park.   If I were in charge of the world There’d be three day weekends, Healthier children, and A much shorter major league baseball season.   If I were in charge of the world, You wouldn’t have sad feelings. You wouldn’t have meetings. You wouldn’t have wars. Or “It’s time to wake up.” You wouldn’t even have alarm clocks. If I were in charge of the world Desserts would be required at every meal and would be a vegetable. All scary movies would be “G.” And a person who sometimes forgot to brush, And sometimes forgot to flush, Would still be allowed to be In charge of the world.
