Japanese Social Game Market

   The Japanese social game market is rapidly expanding. Thanks to its unique sales
 model, it is a very profitable sector. This page provides a summary of key market
 data.

			•				“Japan’s	social	gaming	market	during	2010	was	valued	at	112	billion	yen,	which	
      represents approximately 440 percent of 2009’s 25.5 billion yen … and is among
      the largest in the world.” 1

			•				Playing	games	is,	in	general,	free	but	users	may	purchase	virtual	goods	to	
      proceed further in the game. The sale of virtual goods in online games is done
      through mobile phones.

			•				“Nearly	20%	of	the	social	gaming	respondents	are	paid-for	users,	with	the	
      average spending of 2,262 yen per month.” 1

			•				GREE,	Mobage	and	mixi	are	the	major	Japanese	SNS	platforms.
