2. The Design Cycle
• The Design Cycle consists of the following
steps:
1. Investigate
2. Design
3. Plan
4. Create
5. Evaluate
3. Investigate
• Identify the problem which needs to be
solved.
• Research on the problem and ways to solve it
• Do not limit yourselves to ideas which already
have been tested.
4. Design
• List down as many ideas as you can while you
brainstorm.
• Do not be afraid of making mistakes,. It may
start to limit your ideas.
• Choose the best idea among the rest and
justify your decision.
• Always think outside the box, don’t settle for
the typical.
5. Plan
• After choosing the best idea, make a plan for
the product/solution by organizing the steps.
• Estimate the amount of time taken and list
down the materials needed.
6. Create
• This is the part where you follow the plan. You
may change it as you go when necessary.
• Use appropriate techniques and/or equipment
to create the product/solution.
• Just create the product/solution in the best
way possible.
7. Evaluate
• Ask yourself questions about your products.
Some include:
– What could I have changed to make it better?
– What were some of the flaws of the product?
– What were the good points of the product?
• Evaluate your product honestly and
objectively.
• You may seek the evaluation of others.
8. Sample Situation
• One sample situation for using this design
cycle was when our Science group made a
Mythbusters video.
• This was a project that was a requirement for
both the Science and Computer Subjects.
9. Investigation
• Our group researched on the videos of the
Mythbusters.
• We also researched on possible experiments
to do for the video.
• We thought of experiments and we checked if
they were done already.
10. Design
• We listed down the possible ideas for the
video, with one of the experiments being
about the Colgate and clams.
• We decided on this because we did not find
any significant finding about it.
• Compared to the other ideas, we decided that
the experiment would be the best.
11. Plan
• Next we planned on how to do the video.
• We looked at the style of the Mythbusters
videos at we changed a lot to make it better.
• We thought about how long it might take to
finish everything and the materials we would
use.
12. Create
• We followed the plan we made while doing
the experiment and filming the video.
• We changed a few things in the plan as we
were doing the video such as how we would
do the scenes and how it will end up looking
like.
13. Evaluation
• We watched the video over and over to look
for even small flaws in the video.
• We got some of the opinions of others when
they saw our video.
• We edited the parts that had flaws to make
the video look smoother. We also looked into
the comments of others and we changed
some according to it.
