This journal reflects on Kirandeep Kaur's completion of formative and summative assessments for a Tort Law module. For the formative assessment, she received feedback indicating she should expand on reading materials and sources. She then used this feedback to improve her summative case analysis, for which she received a 2:1 grade. In seminar and a follow up meeting, further advice was given on focusing answers and using Latin referencing phrases to achieve a higher academic level. She is now preparing for her exam by using databases to find relevant journal articles to highlight in her answers.

Kirandeep's reflections on tort law assessments
1. Kirandeep Kaur's
Tort Law Assessment Reflection
Journal Level 4
This journal is designed for me to record all my self reflections which link to the
skills module in the contract assessment I have completed.
The summative assessment for this module is:
1) Case anaysis (2000 words) (50%) - Autumn Term
2) Examination (2hours) (50%) - Summer Term
2. Completed and sent my Formative
assessment
• I have now completed my formative assessment and sent it
in 7 days before the deadline. I feel very confident and
happy with this first piece of assessment as I have spent the
last 3 weeks researching and planning this piece of work
and feel I have done everything to make it my best piece of
assessment I could possibly achieve at this stage on level 4.
I am hoping to have achieved the high end of the mark
band however as this is my first degree level academic
assessment there is the possibility I would not have
achieved this grade. Overall this has prepared me for the
summative piece and the feedback will help me understand
my area of improvements. I will now begin on my
summative research.
3. Formative assessment feedback
• I received a 2:ii mark and understand in order
to achieve a higher mark I will need to expand
on my reading material and sources. I will
intend to use the skills I have developed
through my legal research component to
develop better constructed arguments.
4. I handed in my summative tort case
analysis
• I used the feedback in my formative tort
assessment to receive the feedback in how I
could improve the overall content of my
assessment for the tort module. I used a wide
variety of sources which I discovered form
skills.
5. I received my feedback on summative
tort assessment
• I received a 2:1 grade and I am very pleased
with my improvement and progress. I will
continue to show and reflect my
improvements in my future assessments as I
am aiming to achieve a 1st. The feedback I
have achieved has made me confident and
willing to aim for a higher grade.
6. seminar 7 (and arranged meeting
regarding my summative assessment
feedback)
• I discussed and received feedback on my
assessment further more advice was given on
how I could have obtained a first grade, for
instance I should have stayed focused on the
judgements given in the tort analysis. The
advice I received regarding referencing was
about the use of Latin phrases such as 'ibid' to
make my essay more academic at a higher
level.
7. Exam preparation
• I have been using sources such as Westlaw
and Lexis to discover journal articles which I
could highlight in my summer summative
examinations to make answers stand out and
relevant to the critical issues discussed in the
exam.
