How does my media product represent social groups
1. How does my media product represent social groups?
• Which Social Groups were you aiming to represent?
My magazine (media product) is primarily aimed at five separate social groups (which I shall go into further detail of age and gender in their criteria):
1. ROCK genre fans
These are the fans who incorporate themselves within “ROCK” genre music. Rock is one of the three genres that are featured within my magazine,
making it very appealing to those of this genre, YET may be off put by the other two featured genres.
I’ve involved rock’s theme in my magazine, to instantly tell the potential reader that it is a rock magazine. This will include the dark colours of black and
white, casual tone text (in articles or references that feature a rock persona) and most importantly the reference of the genre within the meaning of
the title of the magazine: “Thorns on Stone”, rock is symbolised by the “Stone” in the title in literal terms of rock and stone.
This audience audience are within the age range of 16-30, gender: Male and obviously with the music interest of Rock.
7. METAL genre fans
These are the fans who incorporate themselves within “METAL” genre music. Metal is one of the three genres that are featured within my magazine,
making it very appealing to those of this genre, Yet may be put off put by the other two featured genres.
I’ve involved metal’s theme in my magazine, to instantly tell the potential reader that it is a metal magazine. This will include the thorn effect on the cover
page, the serious tone text (in articles or references that feature a metal persona) and most importantly the reference of the genre within the
meaning of the title of the magazine: “Thorns on Stone”, metal is symbolised by the theme of thorns (as being dark and violent) and have the rock
(as a rock genre) be changed to stone as a link to how metal is also a material.
10. PUNK genre fans
These are the fans who incorporate themselves within ‘PUNK’ genre music. Punk is one of the three genres that are featured within my magazine,
making it very appealing to those of this genre, Yet may be put off by the other two featured genres.
I’ve involved punk’s theme in my magazine, to instantly tell the potential reader that it is a punk magazine. This will include the Bright red colours used in
contrast over the white and black, the extreme casual tone in text (in articles or references that feature a punk persona) and most importantly the
reference of the genre within the meaning of the title of the magazine: “Thorns on Stone”, punk is symbolised by the theme of spikes and the
roughness that the stone represents within the music.
13. Band fans
Not just genre fans would like to read our magazine, but those who are fans of a specific band, may like to read it as well, due to their contribution to the
magazine. This may lead on to them discovering similar bands or (more drastically) genres that they like, comprising and presenting a whole range
of genres in one, that fans can learn off of. This is why we use the weight of the bands name on the front cover, to attract most of this audience.
15. And those who love all THREE!
And lastly to those, rare, and yet perfect audiences who love ALL THREE genres and most of the bands associated, as these people would love to read
ONE magazine that has the latest on all the favourite names of the three genres, instead having to buy three separate magazines of different
genres to read from.
