5. A Mutual Fund is a trust that pools the savings of a number
of investors who share a common financial goal.
The money thus collected is then invested in capital market
instruments such as shares, debentures and other securities.
The income earned through these investments and the capital
appreciation realized are shared by its unit holders in
proportion to the number of units owned by them.
Thus a Mutual Fund is the most suitable investment for the
common man as it offers an opportunity to invest in a
diversified, professionally managed basket of securities at a
relatively low cost.

20. POLITICAL
RBI has increased its inflation forecast for Financial Year (FY) ending
March 2011, from 5.5% to 7%. It is an area of concern on the
macroeconomic front as it has forced RBI to hike the interest rates.
Overall, higher rates of interest will increase the cost of capital and will
affect corporate earnings if the trend continues over a longer period of
time.
The auto and consumer durable sectors did well as part of the
consumption theme which played out in 2010. We feel that banking,
consumer, pharmaceutical, IT are sectors that offer prospects of healthy
and secular earnings growth.
The rising interest rate scenario does not augur well for the real estate
prices. Besides, corporate governance issues impact their valuations.
21. INVESTMENT POLICIES
Consistent with the investment objectives of the scheme, the AMC aims to
identify securities which offer superior levels of yield at low levels of risk.
The investment team of the AMC will carry out an internal credit analysis of
all securities included in the investment universe. The Scheme may also use
various derivative and hedging products from time to time, as would be
available and permitted by SEBI, in an attempt to protect the value of the
portfolio and enhance Unit holders’ interest.
