2. Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nations 1814
Black attire as well as Janet Jackson
holding her dead high, means that
she is trying to send out a message
and empower people. The image
being on a black background shows
the idea of standing out against the
crowd. Her having a hat on her head
which is black demonstrates that she
is powerful and confident within her
self, as well as the fact that she is
independent and ready to fight.
Black demonstrates strength and
power as well as the determination
to be different.
The light only being portrayed on
her head shows that she is
important and she is the central
figure. Also half of her face being in
the light also demonstrates the
dominance and will to fight. Also by
casting shadows onto her face it
shows that she has a sense of
mystery to her which needs
uncovering, however the light
always demonstrates the good
within her as well.
Her name being small compared the
huge title of the album, it shows the
difference between each and that the
name is important The grey/ white also
demonstrates the boldness that the
words bring and how they are sufficient.
The style of music that Janet Jackson could
potentially be trying to represent is freedom of
expression and also social conscious of the
country. I know this by the reference to the date
“1814” which proves that you can’t judge people
and that she is trying to prove a point by making
a song about justice.

and being just a tiny bit in front of
the heading shows that she is
ready to fight and stand up for
everything. However her title
being just a little bit to the left and
almost appearing under her shows
it is not necessarily important and
that she is the significant person.
The date “1814” is significant due to the fact
that six hundred African American troops had
fought along side the US army , which had
defeated the British forces in the Battle of
New Orleans. They were led by Major Joseph
Savary who was black and head of the US
Army.

3. Alessia Cara: Know it All
The album title being in bold white writing is
simple and casual, however it also makes a point
such as “know it all”. Despite this, it is also
contradicting because there are things that she
might not know.
A pale blue background demonstrates an calm and
peaceful album which shows that maybe it will change
everything about the way music is supposed to be
sexualised and attracting male audiences.
Her name also being bold in Black
shows that she is trying to make herself
stand out. As well as making sure that it
is simple so as not to draw too much
attention to her name. Her name being
handwritten might be trying to relate to
younger and teenagers who feel that
she is casual and is not trying to impress
people. Also by her composition is standing over the album
title, “Know it all” shows that she is confident and
wants to prove that she is independent. It shows that
she wants to stand out and be the main person who is
changing the way that people view the world and
teenage years.
Her album “Know It All” insinuates that
her music is calming and has a point to
make, as well as being different and
ready to stand out against every other
album / artist.
Her facial expression demonstrates to us that she wants to
know more about the world as well as demonstrating that she is
a normal teenage girl who is the same as everyone else.
The album title “Know it All” being in bold
shows how much she is questioning as
well as showing that it compares to her
name which is handwritten. It also
demonstrates how she is trying to attract
an older audience rather than just her
age.
