Mauritius Launches Hotel Classification Project
1. Mauritius Launches Hotel Classification Project
If you have trouble trying to separate out Mauritius family hotels from golf resorts and
honeymoon destinations, there soon could be some relief in sight. According to a draft of a
letter sent to foreign tour operators around the world, the Mauritius government is set to
undertake a project that would classify all hotels operating on the island. The project was
created back in November 2011 as part of government negotiations for the 2012 budget
year.According to an official document released by the Mauritian government the project will
be headed up by the Ministry of Tourism & Leisure in concert with hotel operators and other
tourism industry officials. The hope is to create a system whereby tour operators and hoteliers
can better market resort properties in a way that is easier for tourists to understand. As
outlined in the draft letter sent to tour operators, the "goal of the Hotel Classification system is
to enhance the quality of the travel experience on the island and allow our valued visitors to
take informed decisions before arriving at the destination."

Once the project is complete it should indeed be helpful to visitors planning a holiday in
Mauritius. A classification system makes it easier to compare prices against the quality of
resorts, their amenities, and other things that might apply. Without a classification system it
can be difficult to compare hotels "apples-to-apples." Several other countries known as
international tourist destinations have undertaken similar projects with very good
results. There's no word yet on the basis for the classification system to be used in Mauritius.
Nonetheless, that won't change the fact that the island is a favourite destination of European
travellers in search of sun and surf. France and the UK continue to lead the way by providing
more than two thirds of the total arrivals to Mauritius annually, and rightly so, when you think
about everything she has to offer.

Mauritius is a tropical paradise alive with colour, fragrance, and culture that many Europeans
appreciate. Furthermore, the colonial history of Mauritius is intertwined with France and the
UK in a very special way. This is very effective in bringing tourists interested in exploring those
colonial ties, which can be found in the island's architecture, historical and cultural venues,
entertainment, and dining. In addition, Mauritius is also a playground for the wealthy, a
paradise for golfers and an incredibly romantic environment for honeymooners. She provides
some of the most spectacular natural views in the entire world; from the beautiful mountain
peaks to the tranquil lagoons to the lush, green gardens. Travellers who love the glories of
nature will simply adore Mauritius.
