9. Why a counselor...
I like my job and I like the I want everyone to realize
content I teach, but I LOVE their potential regardless of
my students!! their past and where they
come from
I want to help people
I want to help kids learn how
I think education is to make choices, based on
important their feelings, and think
about consequences BEFORE
I believe in all kids, and what their actions
is best for them.
13. Utilizing different theories
in school... counseling...
Adlerian- I think this theory can give counselors incite to understanding “why kids are the way they
are.” (Experiences, birth order, life stages etc)
Cognitive Behavior Therapy- Helping kids understand that actions have consequences, and
learn to deal with situations in an appropriate way. Situations-> Thoughts-> Feelings-> Actions
Person Centered- I believe this approach is especially effective for the client to be able to utilize the
therapy tools even when he/she is on his own. It is important for the client to apply the skills learned
with the therapist to problem solve issues in every day life.So many times kids have potential; it is the
choices they make and what they decide to do with their potential that sometimes seems to get in the
way. It seems that PTC can give kids the tools to manage and cope with their current and future
problems, especially when they are out of school and on their own.
Solution-focused- Promotes cooperative, change-focused relationships by: (a) validating clients’
struggles and perceptions; (b) encouraging their active involvement and collaboration; (c) conveying hope
in their ability to change; (d) commenting on any positive changes no matter how small; (e) giving them
credit for improvements; (f) focusing on future solutions instead of past problems; and (g) obtaining their
feedback and adjusting services accordingly.
