1. A poem is a pool of water,<br />waiting in calm<br />for the first toe dip, swan dive, or cannon ball<br />to proclaim its space.<br />It ebbs and flows to heighten emotion,<br />and to dunk unsuspecting passersby.<br />Lines and syllables work together<br />like the oversized women floating by on innertubes.<br />As rough and ragged as the water becomes, <br />it returns to silence once we drip-dry.<br />
