18. It’s not about the free stuff…
the career fair is about networking, making
connections, landing the interview to get the JOB!

21. Résumés
#1: The Objective
Leave it off unless you’re applying for an
internship.
Why: It’s too general – use the space for more
important information.
#FCconnect
22. Résumés
#2: Contact Information
Use a professional email address.
Why: Recruiters might find “studmuffin2011” or
“honey_booboo_child91” humorous, but it doesn’t
convey professionalism.
#FCconnect
23. Résumés
#3: Results
Quantify your results – don’t just list job
responsibilities or duties.
Why: Recruiters and hiring managers want to see
what you’ve accomplished.
24. Résumés
#4: Formatting
Make it easy to read. Google standard résumé
formats and tweak as needed.
Why: You have an average of 6-10 seconds before
a recruiter moves on to the next resume. The
easier to read, the more they get through.

25. Résumés
#4.1: Formatting
BONUS TIP: The Enactus Career Marketplace has
37 different templates for different industries and
functions for you to use!
When you log in to the Career Marketplace, select
“Resume Builder” at the top of your screen.

26. Résumés
#5: Length
One page, relevant experience.
Why: 99% of recruiters agree that if a person has
under 10 years of relevant experience, the résumé
should be kept to one page.
#FCconnect
27. BONUS: Career Fairs
Bring your résumés & business cards with contact
information (major, expected graduation date, etc.)
Why: Not every company can accept a résumé at the career
fair. Many require online applications. Apply online, then
leave your business card with the recruiter as a follow up
measure.

28. Interview Tips
#1: Research
Know what the company does, some of their
brands, and their culture. Don’t ask a question
that can be answered on their website or via
Google.
Why: Show that you’re prepared. Do the
homework – it will pay off.
#FCconnect
29. Interview Tips
#2: Practice
Set up mock interviews with an advisor, career
services, friends or family.
Why: Practice makes perfect. You’ll feel more
confident if you have been through the process
before.
#FCconnect
30. Interview Tips
#3: Research
Prepare for behavioral interviewing using the
STAR method.
(Situation, Task, Action, Result)
Why: The majority of companies use this method.
It’s more about how you reacted to real-life
situations.
#FCconnect
31. Interview Tips
#4: Dress for Success
Dress for where you want to be, not where you
are today.
Why: First impressions matter. If you have to
think “is this appropriate,” it probably isn’t.
BONUS TIP: An iron can make a BIG difference.
#FCconnect
32. Interview Tips
#5: Follow Up
Send a handwritten thank you note. Ask what the
next steps are before you leave the interview.
Why: Most candidates simply don’t follow up. Set
yourself apart and make a positive impression.
You’ll stand out.
#FCconnect
33. Interview Tips
BONUS: First Impressions
Be courteous from the first interaction (phone
call, career fair, email, etc.)
Why: Hiring managers often ask the
receptionist, secretary, even the custodian about
their impression of you. Bring your “A” game.
