The first touch screens were developed in the 1960s. Early work at IBM, universities of Illinois and Ottawa. By 1971 several different touch sensing techniques had been disclosed.One of the first touch screens to be generally known was the terminal for the PLATO IV computer assisted education system, deployed in 1972. The touch technology was a precursor to the infrared technology still available from CarrollTouch. The initial implementation had a 16 x 16 array of touch-sensitive locations.
