What is social bookmarking? • A way of making collections of web-based resources • Web-based tools – accessible anywhere with an internet connection • Basic principle of bookmarking pages – like ‘favourites’ in a web browser • But there are several advantages of social bookmarking tools
Benefits of social bookmarking confined to one • Web-based tools – not computer - interoperability • Tagging can be used to help manage and structure your collections • Sharing and discoverability • Group formation • Dissemination – improves search ranking
Demonstration
Which tool is right for you • Will you be bookmarking a lot of journal papers? – DOI lookup, e.g. Connotea, Zotero • Are you building a literature review? – EndNote-like plugins, e.g. Zotero (or Bibtex export) • Would you like to be able to ‘follow’ others updates, like Twitter? E.g. Diigo, Zotero

What is social bookmarking?

  • 3. What is social bookmarking? • A way of making collections of web-based resources • Web-based tools – accessible anywhere with an internet connection • Basic principle of bookmarking pages – like ‘favourites’ in a web browser • But there are several advantages of social bookmarking tools
  • 4. Benefits of social bookmarking confined to one • Web-based tools – not computer - interoperability • Tagging can be used to help manage and structure your collections • Sharing and discoverability • Group formation • Dissemination – improves search ranking
  • 6. Which tool is right for you • Will you be bookmarking a lot of journal papers? – DOI lookup, e.g. Connotea, Zotero • Are you building a literature review? – EndNote-like plugins, e.g. Zotero (or Bibtex export) • Would you like to be able to ‘follow’ others updates, like Twitter? E.g. Diigo, Zotero
