This problem is widespread; although the greatest volume of trafficking occurs in Asia. More countries it also effects are : - Russia - Eastern Europe - Hong Kong, Japan - Columbia - United States
3. Trafficking Fact.. In the Unites States, as many as 50,000 women and children are brought under false pretences each year and forced to work as prostitutes, abused laborers’ or servants, according to a report by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency. Few cases are prosecuted. (Jenson)
4. Reasons for human trafficking The main reason for sex trade is money. Every year thousands of girls in the United States have to endure exploitation, abuse, and fear simply because selling people makes more money, “According to the United Nations, human trafficking is the third most lucrative criminal enterprise in the world after weapons and narcotics.” (Kahl) Another reason is because there is a weak enforcement of laws and a fundamental lack of understanding about human trafficking.
5. Trafficking of Children Trafficking of children is the recruitment, transportation, transfer, or receipt of children for the purpose of exploitation. Commercial sexual exploitation of children can take many forms and include forcing a child into prostitution or other forms of sexual activity or child pornography. Thailand and Brazil are considered to have the worst child sex trafficking records.
6. Trafficking comes in many forms Including : - Forcing victims into prostitution - Subjecting victims to slavery or involuntary servitude - Compelling victims to commit to sex acts for the purpose of creating pornography - Misleading victims into debt bondage
7. In Pop Culture The 2008 film Taken by Pierre Morel, starring Liam Neeson, in which the main character’s daughter and her friend are taken by traffickers in Paris. In his quest to find his daughter, the movie depicts foreign girls in Paris who are “trafficked” with the purpose of forcing them to prostitution. The 2009 film Happy Endings, filmed in Rhode Island, chronicles the lives of the women in massage parlors in Rhode Island during a battle in the state legislature to make prostitution illegal, focusing on human trafficking. Holly (2006) is a movie about a little girl, sold by her poor family and smuggled across the border to Cambodia to work as a prostitute in a red light village.
8. Things Being done About this issue The U.S. government has made laws against slavery as well as developing a list of goods that the U.S. department of Labor has reason to think are produced through forced labor. Police officers also look around their areas for any signs of prostitution or slavery.
