  Signal Jamming is a significant threat which cause the breakage or disruption of
  the wireless link between the platform and the outside world

  Enforcement Agencies like Police & Customs report that crime syndicates are
  already using Jammers to thwart enforcement operations

  All types of Jammers are easily available now. FBI considers Jamming as a bigger
  threat than the Viruses, Worms and Trojans in a Wireless world.

  As petroleum assets are becoming increasingly important , proactive measures
  should be taken to alleviate any threat to its operation

  Signal jamming is quite disastrous to an O&G platform as there is no wireline link
  as back up
  .

   Jammers with directional antennas have a
   very long reach




Multiple types of jammers easily available in the market
Wideband/ multi band jammers are becoming more common
VHF/Microwave jammers are quite low cost jammers
Jamming is a low tech, low cost yet highly disastrous threat
Jamming of the Digital Microwave link

                                                             OFDM based WiFi / WiMAX links and
                                                             Proprietary ( QAM, QPSK ) links are
                                                             extremely vulnerable
                                                             These links are not designed for anti
                                                             Jamming. Simple Transmitters in the same
                                                             frequency can break the links easily
                                                             High level of vulnerability to the signal
                                                             jamming threat


                                                             Needs a Jam Proof back up link for
                                                             withstanding a jamming threat




     A Jamming attack could be conducted from the land or from the sea by using directional
     antennas
     Jamming attack from a moving platform ( Car or a boat ) is almost impossible to locate


     A land based low power jamming source ( in 10s of Watts) with a directional antenna can bring
     down the land based Radio terminal easily.
     The commercially available modems employing QAM, OFDM or similar techniques are highly
     vulnerable to signal jamming. Even a low level of jamming is able to break the link completely.
Jamming of VSAT Links




   VSAT links are highly vulnerable due to the low received power
   Low power seaborne jammer or high power land based jammer to break the link
   Jammers for satellite links are available in the market


   Due to the jamming threat, new satellites being designed are going to be provided
   anti jamming.

 Troposcater links are highly vulnerable
 VHF, HFIP , Troposcater links are not designed to withstand interference
 Low power jammers can bring down these links
TRIATA : JAM PROOF MICROWAVE LINK
