   Vietnam, officially the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, is the easternmost
    country on the Indochina peninsula in Southeast Asia.

   Its capital city has been Hanoi since the reunification of North and South
    Vietnam in 1976.

   it is the world's 13th most populous country, and the 8th most populous
    Asian country.

   The country is bordered by China to the north, Laos to the northwest, and
    Cambodia to the southwest, and the South China Sea to the east.

   Monetary unit: Dong

   Languages: Vietnamese (official), French, English, Khmer, Chinese

At the beginning of the Bronze Age, the Viet tribe groups had settled down in the North
and in the north of Central Vietnam. There were about 15 groups of Lac Viet tribesmen living
mainly in the northern highland and delta and a dozen Au Viet groups of tribesmen living in
Viet Bac, the northern region of old Vietnam
Between the 11th and 18th centuries, Vietnam expanded southward in a process known
asnam tien southward expansion), and eventually conquered the kingdom of Champa and
part of the Khmer Empire.

At first, most Americans supported the war. By 1970, the PEACE
MOVEMENT had support from all sections of society and no government
could ignore it.
VIETNAM TRADITIONAL BRONZE DRUM




     The first drum was invented more than three thousands years ago in northern Vietnam by
the Lac Viet, the remote ancestors of the Vietnamese people. It played a vital role in the
ancient society and was present in most important activities of Lac Viet civilization. Made for
religious ceremonies, rallying men for war, or for other secular roles. The drum was decorated
with rich and well composed images of objects, humans and animals.
   The climate in Vietnam varies greatly from north to south.

   The north has a cool and dry season from November to April
    and a hot rainy season from May to October.

   The central coast north of Nha Trang has a similar climate
    with the winter monsoon bringing cool, wet weather between
    December and February.

   The south is hot and humid all year round, especially from
    February to May.
CLIMATE
The rainy season lasts from May to November.

The central highlands have a similar climate to the south, but it is cooler and temperatures
can be freezing in winter.

The official peak season in Vietnam is from September to April.

If invited to a Vietnamese home:

   Bring fruit, sweets, flowers.

   Gifts should be wrapped in colorful paper.

   Do not give handkerchiefs, anything black, yellow flowers or chrysanthemums.
   Wait to be shown where to sit.

   The oldest person should sit first.

   Pass dishes with both hands.

   The most common utensils are chopsticks and a flat spoon.

    Hold the spoon in your left hand while eating soup.

    Try to finish everything on your plate.

   When you are finished eating, rest your chopsticks on top of your rice bowl.

   Cover your mouth when using a toothpick.
ASEAN

   The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) includes countries, such as
    Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and
    Vietnam.

   Vietnam had taken on the role of President of the ASEAN, beginning January 01, 2010.

   The country aims to utilize its term as the president to accelerate development of the ASEAN
    Community, strengthen regional solidarity and cooperation, and enhance Vietnam’s image at the
    international front.
