April 28, 2011- (Tarrant County) U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded $943,719.00 to the Fort
Worth/Arlington/Tarrant County Continuum of Care (CoC) today.
HUD’s grants fund a wide range of transitional and permanent housing programs as well as supportive services such as
job training, case management, mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment and child care. Street outreach and
assessment programs to transitional and permanent housing for homeless persons and families are also funded through
these grants.
“This announcement demonstrates the quality of our community’s Continuum of Care for the homeless These new
permanent supportive housing programs will allow us not only to continue to end chronic homelessness, these new beds
will allow us to meet the 6 year goal of Directions Home in just three years,” said Cindy J. Crain, Tarrant County
Homeless Coalition (TCHC) executive director. “The HOMES / SOS program will build a housing first program for the
most vulnerable unsheltered homeless, and will result in an even further reduction in unsheltered homeless, already at a
30% reduction from just two years ago. The Veterans program will build on the increase in dedicated beds that will
continue our efforts to put an end to homelessness to persons who have served our country.”
