Tarrant County 2011 Homeless Count
Final Results: Homelessness Decreased - County Wide Reduction of 30%
FORT WORTH (April 26, 2011) - After long and careful analysis of the preliminary count results previewed at the state
of the homeless address in February, the Tarrant County Homeless Coalition (TCHC) reports final results of the 2011
Point-In-Time Homeless Count. Findings will be presented in the joint meeting of the Mayor’s Advisory Commission on
Homelessness and the TCHC whereby TCHC will present and distribute the official 2011 Homeless Survey report.
WHEN: Wednesday, April 27th
TIME: 4-6pm
WHERE: Tarrant County Public Health (Main Campus Education Room)
1101 S. Main Street, Fort Worth, TX 76104
The final aggregate count of the Point-In-Time process has been compiled:
Tarrant County achieved a reduction in the number of homeless - from 2,181 in 2009 to 2,169 counted on January
27, 2011.
The reduction in unsheltered homeless from 195 to 136, a reduction of 30%.
TCHC reports there was a 3.2% decrease in the annualized estimate of those who will experience homelessness in
2011 in Tarrant County from 5,012 in 2009 to 4,847. These results reflect a significant reduction in episodic
homelessness.
Despite an 86% increase in evictions in Tarrant County from 2001 to 2010, prevention and rapid re-housing
programs in Tarrant County have minimized the number of persons facing evictions, rather than entering
emergency shelters or living on the street.
“The data collected allows our community and Continuum of Care (service providers, funders, and advocates) to
understand and accurately report information.” states Cindy J. Crain, TCHC Executive Director. “This data enables us to
examine homelessness and helps us to direct planning and development on many levels. With several state budget
programs in jeopardy, the need has never been greater for coordinated efforts. We need the entire community to join in to
keep Tarrant County moving forward and on the path to ending homelessness.”
