COMMUNICATIONS
One message posted on the head coach’s
Facebook account, or the captain’s, to a move or
cancelling of practice, is quicker than making a
dozen phone calls or several text messages.
“It makes it so easy to communicate to the entire
group as opposed to relying on the old phone
‘chain,’ Hand boys’ basketball coach Frank Rossi
said. “I’ve seen coaches post schedules, changes
in schedules, inspirational/motivational quotes,
stats and other things.”

16. TWITTER FOR STEM
ENGAGEMENT
“As someone who was not
involved in the project, I was able
to follow the progress of the boat
building on Twitter when students
used hashtags. It was evident from
reading the tweets that the use of
hashtags and Twitter had
generated much more excitement
for the event.
There is no better way to generate
excitement for science and math--
subjects that can be seen as
boring--than by fostering
competition through social media.”

17. PARENT AND STUDENT
ENGAGEMENT
"It is nice for parents to be able to participate in
their students' educations, especially in high
school," Wisehart said. "Once the students get
older, parents aren't allowed as many
opportunities as they were when their kids were
in elementary school.”
She also films herself when she is going to be
absent so the substitute can show the YouTube
video to her classes. "This is a great way for
students not to miss my instruction, even when
I'm not in the room.”
Finally, Wisehart has found that cellphones and
texting are a great way to get students involved
in class discussions. A special website allows
students to text in and converse using an
interactive whiteboard called a Smart Board.
