2. Fast Facts The length of the average scorpion is 5 inches long. Most scorpions live up to 15 years. Scorpions live on every continent except Antarctica. Most scorpions live in deserts, rainforest, prairies, and the woodlands. Scorpions mainly eat insects, spiders, cockroaches, and other scorpions.

3. Mouth Part The mouth is located in the cephalothorax. As the scorpions see their prey, scorpions use their pincers and tail to kill it. The mouth throws up digestive juice and puts it all over the prey so it will be easier to eat.

4. Scorpion’s Body A scorpion’s body is an exoskeleton. Their body divides into sections. Outside of their body, there is a hard shell that protects its organs inside. All over the body is hair that senses air movement to see what’s happening.

5. Scorpion’s Head The head include the eyes and the mouth. It’s a flat and narrow head. The cephalothorax makes up the head, the carapace, the eyes, mouth, the claws, and 4 pairs of legs.

6. Abdomen A scorpion’s long tail is the abdomen. It is divided into sections At the very end of the tail there is a stinger.

7. Unusual Character About 25 species can kill people with their deadly venom. With scorpion venom, it helps make medication to help people recover from diseases. Some scientists believed this medication can help people with cancer.

8. Population Scientist believed scorpions had been here for more than 400 million years ago. There are over 1,500 species. Scientists believed there are over 100s of more species yet undiscovered.
