Buli is a village in Taal, one of the oldest
towns in the province of Batangas.
Its name may have come from the “buri”
plant which, popular belief tells us, was
plenty in this place even before the coming
of the Spaniards.
Buri, which is commonly known to us as buli
is a plant whose leaves are used in making
fans, hats, mats and a sweet juice which is a
favorite drink of the people.
This juice can also be made into vinegar.
38. Our Lady of Caysasay and St. Martin
de Tours

in Taal are held
during the town
fiesta on
December 8 in
honor of Our
Lady of
Caysasay.
November 11 is
the celebration of
the feast of San
Martin de Tours.
A procession is a queue of participants composed of men and women of various ages to
honor a local patron saint.
It is religious in nature and is often done on the feast day of the venerated saint.
Celebrations are in the form of prayer, hymns, declamation, and flower offerings, after
which food and drinks are served.

the Image of the
Virgin Mary is
brought to Pansipit
River. Town folks

riverbank, where
several bancas
(boats) are

Image of Our Lady
of Caysasay is
carried by devotees
in a fluvial
procession at the
watercourse. And
the fluvial
procession ends at
a place called
Nagpuloc.
Fluvial Procession, Good Friday (Procession) and
Tapusan (Flores de Mayo)
The festival is said to have started in
1854 when the Vatican declared the
dogma of the Immaculate Conception of
Mary. Was introduced by the
Spaniards, and celebrated in Batangas
and other neighboring towns after
Mariano Sevilla’s interpretation of the
devotional Flowers of May.

figure of it. Taal Volcano is also known as the smallest volcano in the
world.
Ang Maliputo at Tawilis ay nakikita lamang sa Batangas
Sinasabi rin na ang maliputo ay mga isdang talakitok na tumawid mula
tubig alat (through Pansipit River) patungong lawa ng Taal. Sa paglipas
ng panahon, pagbabago ng environment at water condition (from salty
to fresh water) ay nagbago at sumarap di umano ang isdang ito na sya
nating tinatawag na maliputo.
94. Taal was transferred in other place due to the Eruption of Taal Volcano; Taal
came from Ta-ad which is an old batangueno term for sugar cane points.
Ang Trivia tungkol kay Our Lady of Caysasay In 1603, a fisherman by the
name of Juan Maningcad caught a little statue of the Blessed Virgin of the
Immaculate Conception, about 10 1/2 inches tall, in his net while fishing along
the Pansipit River in Barrio Caysasay of the town of Taal, Batangas. On seeing
this marvel, Juan did not know what to say or do. He prostrated himself before
the image and began to pray. The news spread and when it reached the town,
the parish priest and judge went to Juan's house. Upon seeing the beautiful
image of the Mother of God, they knelt down to venerate it and decided to take
the statue to Taal, where a grand fiesta was celebrated and to this day
continues to be celebrated on December 8 in honor of the Virgin.
