2. I. Rationale
The topic Media Managers has been selected in this study for media students who are not
quite familiar on the circulation going on with the different media outlets. The
researchers selected a media practitioner from a certain media company.
This research paper aims on building a better picture to the students of Communication
on how a media practitioner is as a manager. This is about a known broadcaster of GMA-
7 Center Cebu and he can provide a concrete example of a media manager. In the next
parts, he will share who he is on and off the camera and how he manages to survive in the
harsh industry of media.
Only a few among the chosen, last in media because of many contributing factors.
People know that a lot of problems are attached to being a media practitioner. This study
will discuss one by one and learn in the further discussions what drives a media
practitioner to stick to this profession despite these problems.
3. II. Statement of the Problem
As communication students, this study aims to know how a media outlet or at least a
media department is managed by a media practitioner. There are prepared 10 questions
which mostly surrounds on being a manager. This set of questions will be asked to a
media practitioner who works in television.
1. Please tell us how a television outfit is managed.
2. What encouraged you / made you decide to be in this industry?
3. What are some of the problems that you experience in your field?
4. How did you solve / overcome it?
5. Do you welcome suggestions ?ideas from your subordinates?
6. Do you encourage competition from your workers?
7. Do you reward them? In what way?
8. What does it take to become an effective manager?
9. Do you consider yourself as an effective manager? Why or why not?
10. What are the most important qualities you are looking for in a media worker /
from a communication graduate?
4. III. Methodology
Using the researchers’ connection,they were able to contact Mr. JepoyTumulak of GMA-
7 Center Cebu. Mr. Tumulak referred Mr. AljeanAbaquita, a resident broadcaster of the
station. Mr. Abaquita was interviewed using various questions on the basis of structured
questionnaires to determine his roles as a manager of GMA-7.
Using the qualitative method, the researchers were able to construct questions for the
interview. The questionnaires were based on the following items:

5. IV. Results
The study was worth doing since it helped to give a clearer view about the world of radio
industry. This specific study gives more tips on how to become an excellent radio
broadcaster, in gathering news, and of course understood the risks that always came
along the way in news gathering and even the possible dangers in airing such news item.
In indulging in a radio industry, it is very important that there is an authoritative voice
quality, that way the listeners will be more interested since the aired news sounds so
believable or real. It is also necessary that the news aired were creatively presented, and
mastery of the news item is a must. The news should be clearly stated and understandable
to the listeners so every news item must be clearly emphasized.
When it comes to news gathering, hi-tech gadgets would really help since they will be
used in gathering evidences in a certain scene, and workshops, seminars, and trainings
will be undergone to every radio broadcasters to add on ideas on how to achieve best
news article.
Lives of a broadcaster were not that easy. Dangers always come along the way in
everyday living, but if that is really the passion-to report, then one should always be
ready to accept what will happen and be responsible at all times.
6. V. Discussion
This research clearly emphasizes media practitioner as a manager in the field of
television. It also considers the work experiences if how long he/she has been in the
media industry. Only a manager with strong personality to handle competitions can stay
in the position for a long time.
The significance in analyzing this study is helping media management less than
mediocrity as interpreted by the researcher. This implies for the betterment in working
such industry. Foreseeing the youngsters not to be misled is the cause of personal
viewpoints in engaging this kind of work.
7. VI. Conclusion
In conclusion, the result of this study providesfascinating insights into the closer view on
how a media practitioner works in a certain media outlet as he performs to be a manager.
It was emphasized that in the world of media, people need to consider many things in
order to be an efficient media practitioner. As a Communication student, there is a need
to know various factors that is needed to face upon entering to this world because media
is a broad word; it does not focus in one thing and does not stop in one situation.
There is a need to learn how to think strategically to capture the interest of the viewers or
listeners and make them believethat informationbeing fed to them is true and no bias. To
last in this kind of profession, it is important to keep self-motivation and passion. Most
importantly, there is a need to be ready because this field is dangerous.
8. VII. Recommendation
This research study suggests thatmedia managersshould further study and apply different
strategies, techniques, and styles to continually compete with other networks. The manager
should flourish and strictly follow legal instructions to avoid cases that can degrade not
only one person but the news station as a whole.
The researchers recommend that every program must be given a strict time limit. It is easy
to get distracted especially with social media begin to drift. Get on and get off the social
media tool according to your plan.They should cut out wasted time, allowing you to spend
more time creating cool stuff and engaging with listeners and viewers.
Lastly, the researchers recommend that the manager should not just dedicate all his time to his
job, he also has a family, and being in a media industry is just a part of life and not all of it. He
must learn how to balance and fill all the aspects of his life in spite of his busy schedule.
