• It’s also home to the second largest thermal lake
in the world, Lake Heviz, the largest lake in
Central Europe, Lake Balaton, and the largest
natural grasslands in Europe, Hortobagy.

• Hungary was a great power until the end of
World War I, when Hungary lost over 70% of
its territory, one third of its ethnic population,
and all of its sea ports.
• Its present form of government, a
parliamentary republic, was established in
1989.
• On March 15, 1848, the House of Habsburg
was dethroned.

• Hungary’s government is currently a
parliamentary government.
• The President of the Republic is elected by the
members of the National Assembly every 5 years.
• The President’s role is being a Commander-in-

with frequent rain showers.

• A minor part of southern Hungary has a Mediterranean
climate.

• Hungary has two branches of military; the
“Hungarian Ground Force” and the
“Hungarian Air Force”.
• The Hungarian Ground Force is known as the
“Corps of Homeland Defenders”.
• Essentially, this would be known as their
Army.
