8. Success Story: Telstra – the solution
• In 2004, Telstra has selected the MetroStar system for their
network, for Fast and Gigabit Ethernet services, delivered
mainly to business and government customers
• The MetroStar is used in a typical aggregation demarcation
model
• On the operational level, the MetroStar has proved to be an
extremely effective solution, which requires very little
effort during commissioning of services and even less
attention later during the ongoing maintenance routine of
the network
9. Success Story: Telstra - support
• Local partner in this project is Nokia Siemens Networks
• Throughout the testing stages and later during
deployment, FibroLAN was fully committed to support
Telstra including development of additional features and
enhancements, according to Telstra’s requirements
• Telstra has performed integrations of the MetroStar system
into several management systems, the main ones being:
NetCool and eHealth,. Most of the integration was
straightforward and FibroLAN fully supported Telstra
during this process
• Telstra and FibroLAN have maintained a direct
communication channel (with NSN, in the loop)
10. Success Story: Telstra – deployment, reliability
• Deliveries and deployments started in January 2005 and are
still ongoing with delivery time accuracy of close to 100%
• Current (Jan/11) field population (estimated):
over 1,700 CO MetroStar chassis
over 10,000 active Fast Ethernet links
over 1,800 active Gigabit Ethernet links
a total of more than 32,000 active elements
• Reliability shown by the systems and their components is
highly impressive and estimated at an average MTBF of
over 1.5 million hours (!) across the existing field population
