6. Scripture Study
Acts 2
Acts 17
John 9
John 4
Luke 5
Acts 9
Guiding Questions:
Who is the evangelist in the
passage?
How would you describe
their evangelistic activity?
What is the result of their
evangelistic activity?
7. Evangelism Teamwork
Our celebrity tends to celebrate the “closer”
as the true evangelist.
What we see in the Bible is a variety of
different people, with different strengths and
gifts, all participating in evangelistic activity
in a way unique to them.
“Links in a Chain”
Which link God has called you to be?
8. Six Styles of Evangelism
Confrontational
Intellectual
Testimonial
Interpersonal
Invitational
Serving
9. Confrontational
Key Person: Peter in Acts 2
Key Verse: 2 Timothy 4:2
Traits: You are confident, you’re bold,
you are direct, you skip small talk—you
like to get right to the point, and you
have strong opinions.
10. Intellectual
Key Person: Paul in Acts 17
Key Verse: 2 Cor. 10:5
Traits: You are analytical, you’re logical,
you are inquisitive, you like to debate,
and you’re more concerned with what
people think than how they feel.
11. Testimonial
Key Person: The Blind Man in John 9
Key Verse: 1 John 1:3
Traits: You’re a clear communicator, you
are a good listener, you are open about
your personal life—it’s ups and downs,
you are deeply impacted by how God
reached you, and you see links between
your own experience and that of other
people’s.
12. Interpersonal
Key Person: Matthew in Luke 5
Key Verse: 1 Cor. 9:22
Traits: You’re conversational, you are
compassionate, you’re sensitive, you are
friendship oriented, and you focus on
people and their needs.
13. Invitational
Key Person: The woman at the well in
John 4
Key Verse: Luke 14:23
Traits: You are hospitable, you’re
persuasive, you enjoy meeting new
people, you’re committed (ie, believe in
the things in which you are involved),
you see outreach events as unique
opportunities to which people can be
invited.
14. Serving
Key Person: Dorcas in Acts 9
Key Verse: Matt 5:16
Traits: You are patient, you are people-
centered, you see a need and find joy in
meeting that need, you show love
through action more than words, you
attach value to even small tasks.
15. Discussion Questions
How have you seen God move in your life in
the past week in regards to evangelism?
What are your top evangelism styles? Refer
to the inventory you took last week.
What are practical ways you can
intentionally exercise your evangelism styles
in your context? Come up with one
practical way as a group on how you can
practice your style this upcoming week.
16. Growth-work
Commit to practicing your evangelism style in your
context this week, and do it!
For next week: Prepare to tell your story. Draw a
timeline of your faith journey, spanning from birth to
today (or whatever time period seems appropriate).
Things to consider: phases, influential experiences like
worship, a teacher, pastor, mentor, class, job,
tragedy, celebration, births, deaths, marriage,
divorce, change/transition. At what times did you
experience spiritual peaks and valleys? (And
anything in between). Plot out points that generally
represent the highs—mediums—lows of your faith
walk.
