1. ENGLISH ADVANCED I MODULE III PROF. JOSADAC FLORES PÉREZ UVM Guadalajara North Campus English Academia
2. This module introduces you to the APA Basic Rules. As a student you will need to focus on academic writing when writing an academic paper. Whether you are writing a discussion posting, e-mail to your instructor or a homework paper, you will need to use formal writing. It is not the same to write a message to a friend in the chat, than to write something for an academic purpose. UVM Guadalajara North Campus English Academia
3. Formal writing is used in academic writing and business communications. Informal English I used when communication with friends in a casual setting. When using informal writing you can use: colloquial words and expressions, contractions, slang, first person, clichés, or abbreviations. When writing for academic purposes you need to avoid using colloquial words or expressions, contractions and abbreviations. Academic writing involves a formal tone and requires planning and organizational skills. In academic writing your audience includes your teacher and other professionals. If you are writing an academic paper, avoid the familiar or informal tone that will make your writing seem less professional. UVM Guadalajara North Campus English Academia
4. When writing for academic purposes you need to write original papers. You can use the ideas of other authors to support your own ideas including in-text citations and references. APA style was developed by social and behavioral scientists to standardize scientific writing and is used for term papers, research reports, empirical studies, literature reviews, theoretical articles, methodological articles and case studies. In general terms, a paper in APA style includes a title page, abstract, introduction, method, results, discussion, references and appendices. Formatting your paper in APA style means paying attention to mechanical details such as typeface, line spacing, margins, and page headers. UVM Guadalajara North Campus English Academia
