Plants produce flowers which have male and female organs. The male organ, or stamen, contains pollen. The female organ, or carpel, contains the stigma, style and ovary. Seeds are formed when pollen from the stamen fertilizes the carpel. Flowers have specific parts - the stigma, style and ovary make up the carpel; the anther and filament make up the stamen.
