State of the Union 2014
During the State of the Union, President Obama has made a speech about what is going on and
what he wants to accomplish in the future.
First of all, he addressed the state of the economy and how it’s supposedly recovering. He
claims that unemployment is dropping, and the federal deficit is decreasing. He said that this is due to
several factors, including government-made jobs and the ending of the war in Iraq. He also said that the
energy dependency on foreign imports is decreasing due to new natural gas deposits.
Obama has also claimed that the war in Afghanistan will end once the Afghanistan government
signs an agreement. After that, only defeating Al Qaeda will be left.
However, Obama has some plans for the future. First of all, he wants to increase the minimum
wage to $10.10 an hour in order to help those in poverty. He also wants to make sure his healthcare
laws continue to stay in place. He also wants to make sure more of our goods are produced in the USA
to decrease dependency on foreign products.
Obama also wants to spread out the government budget to other departments like education.
This will become easier once the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are over.
Obama wants to make sure Iran doesn’t make any nuclear weapons. He’s going to try to
negotiate with the Iranian government, and if that fails, put sanctions on them.
