Vision statement, as stated in the official proposal submitted to SMUIcon and OSL in Jan 2009.
Missions, as stated in the official proposal submitted to SMUIcon and OSL in Jan 2009.
Although appearing to be a cultural club on campus, the main intention of the very first Chao Vietnam Committee is to strengthen the bonds amongst the Vietnamese community, through various internal events. This is because: (1) we understand the concerns of previous batches of Vietnamese students about the lack of seniors’ supports and hence the lack of sense of belonging; and (2) the pre-requisite of an active and growing club is the strong and bond relationship between its member. However, as Chao Vietnam grows stronger and stronger within the community, we can achieve more challenging goals which goes beyond the borders of SMU
Highlighted activities were ones that Chao Vietnam club has done in the first year of its inception. Focus was on Cultural Festivals and Internal acti vities
In October 2009, in view of granting more strategic influence and responsibilities to international students, SMU Student Association (SMUSA) decided to place SMUIcon right under it, as opposed to under Art and Cultural Fraternity (ACF) earlier. The President of SMUIcon will also become the International Student Secretary who sits in the Executive Committee of SMUSA. This restructuring indicates serious steps of SMUSA (and OSL) in increasing the visibility and importance of international students and cultural diversity on campus.
The graph shows the number of Vietnamese students enrolled into SMU over the years. According to reliable information from Office of Undergraduate Admissions (OUA), there have been 146 Vietnamese students accepted to enroll into undergraduate programmes @ SMU. We are unable to obtain this information for post graduate programmes. At the moment of creating these slides, there are 116 Vietnamese undergraduate. One thing to note is that as a “sub club” under CCA club SMUIcon, the leader position is Director as opposed to President. In official documents and other media of communication, the Exco of the sub club is “Sub club Committee”. The Director of the sub club will also become the Event Director who sits in Board of Exco of SMUIcon

The timeline is to be STRICTLY followed. Late nominations and essay submissions will not be accepted.
