Anorexia
By: Harley Moran
Anorexia Nervosa
• An eating disorder
• People usual have obsession with being
abnormally thin and have a distorted view
of themselves
• Serious mental illness
• Anorexia in it’s simplest broken down
terms means lack of desire to eat
Signs and Symptoms
• Rapid and dramatic weight loss
• Obsession with fat and calories
• Dieting despite being thin
• Distorted perception of themselves
• Depression
• Isolate themselves
Triggering Factor
• Studies have shown that many people cut
back on food and lose weight, and that
gives them motivation to cut back eating
even more. Weight loss seems to be the
triggering factor for anorexia.
Target
• Majority of anorexic people are younger
and are females. They are generally the
most self conscious and feel the greatest
pressure to be thin.
• Not all anorexic people are young and
female.
3 Step Treatment
• 1) Getting the person back to a safe and
healthy weight
• 2) Treating her mental illness and getting
the person to see themselves normally
• 3) reducing thoughts and behaviors
related to anorexia
Statistics
• 90% of anorexic people are female
• 40% of anorexic people are females
between 15 and 19 years of age.
Famous Faces
• Victoria Beckham
• Fiona Apple
• Jane Fonda
• Kate Beckinsale
• Audrey Hepburn
• Mary-Kate Olsen
• The one and only Snooki
Influences
• Many younger girls feel pressure to be
thin. They feel like they need to be perfect
because they see famous people in
magazines and models on runways who
are stick thin. They don’t realize that the
magazines are photoshopped, and the
models are just as self conscious as the
rest of us. Most runway models suffer from
anorexia or bulimia.
