Bull’s strategy consists of taking full advantage of Bull’s recognised technological expertise within a unified organisation in order to strongly position the company in the area of high-end servers and heterogeneous systems infrastructures. In the area of servers, Bull will ensure its GCOS customers the continuity of their applications, the power increase and the openness to new applications they need. Bull is developing a complete Intel-based range running GCOS 8, GCOS 7, Linux and Microsoft Windows environments. Bull’s products and IT services will benefit from the fast growth of the new open markets, that are being opened up by technology breakthroughs such as Itanium 2 in the area of servers, Web services, Open Source technologies for network solutions and security. The right selling proposition should be performed account by account. Reality principle is to be applied. Key directions include: in the back-office : keep GCOS and for mid-term projects, propose FAME. In the short term AIX will be proposed to support compute and data intensive open applications. in the application servers arena : examine the opportunity to sell I/A 32 or 64-bit-based servers running Linux or Windows with ISV’s applications from BEA, Oracle, SAP, Microsoft and Open Source ones. AIX servers should be proposed when customers need it. in the front-office : propose I/A32 servers, together with Linux. Application software will come from the open source world for web servers and mail services. Portal solutions will come from partner products (BEA, Oracle, SAP) or open source.
