Self-focused time. Work on skills of collaboration and empathy. “ learn to take personal responsibility for their decisions, respect each other’s unique contributions and develop a grade-wide culture of inclusiveness”=ME to WE Touchstone: also will discuss this when I talk about why we are doing it at this time of year Everyone will be on the same trip having a similar experience in the same region They can connect about the things they did, tell “war stories” Common reference point Teachers also have this reference point and can tap into it as a shared metaphor For those reasons, trip is not optional but part of our curriculum
AMC White Mountain Huts: we will be using 5 different huts: Carter Notch, Mizpah springs, Lonesome Lake, Greenleaf and Zealand Falls Huts are full service: they serve meals, bunks with bedding, fridge, lighting, are staffed by AMC hut stewards Green initiatives: green power from wind, solar, water turbines, composting toilets
About 6h 40 m drive Joe Dodge Lodge is in Pinkham Notch and Highland center is in Crawford Notch, NH
Wool blankets are provided by the huts. Sleeping bags are optional but allowed.
Movies will be on the bus Cell phones must not come on the trip. The goal here is to communicate as necessary but not to have clandestine cell phone use create unecessary stress
