twitter terms
• Tweet. A message sent via Twi%er (140 characters).
• Follow To follow someone on Twi%er is to subscribe to their tweets.
• Reply @ A Tweet posted in reply to another user's message, usually posted by clicking the "reply" bu%on next to their Tweet in your -meline. Always begins with @username.
• Retweet (RT). A repeated tweet. It some-mes used in a reply to allow everyone to see the original tweet.
• DM. A Direct Message sent via Twi%er only the recipient can see.

The # symbol, called a hashtag, is used to mark keywords or topics in a Tweet. It was created
organically by Twi%er users as a way to categorize messages.

advance search
with loca-on,
people, and
various words.

10. Twitter tips
• “@” reply at the beginning will only show
up to those replied to or following both
you and the person replied to. Add a
period or word in front to show to

• Avatar should be a photo of you
• Fill out your bio and be wi%y
• Scheduling OK but don’t automate
everything
• Engage, Engage, Engage
• Don’t worry about follower count, it’s
about the conversa-on.
• Save certain frequently used searches
