An educational overview of the Cloud Computing Ecosystem or Framework. This presentation is geared toward those who are just beginning to understand Cloud Computing.
Note : Cloud computing is still an evolving paradigm. Its definitions, use cases, underlying technologies, issues, risks, and benefits will be refined in a spirited debate by the public and private sectors. These definitions, attributes, and characteristics will evolve and change over time. Welcome. I am (name and title: Julie McDaniel, Project/Program Manager) with the Csix Cloud Computing group. I am here in a consultative role to persuade you enterprise IT directors to be 110% “for sure” to move your testing business unit under the Engineering Dept. to the cloud. Today’s presentation will be an informational overview of cloud computing. Keep in mind, cloud computing is still an evolving industry, and the information presented will be at an informational, educational, and abstract level. The idea is to get you 110$ on board to move your testing business unit to the cloud.

For purposes of this presentation and to help you understand how this fits for you and your enterprise, you (organization/ enterprise) are the User; your employees are consumers. You will move portions of your enterprise to a Supplier or SP.
Other terms used to refer to the cloud are – Cloud Stack Cloud framework Cloud components

Here is a picture view of the cloud ecosystem. Cloud pyramid has Application at top (platform, infrastructure, security) and Management as the bottom layer. Note how both security and management span Application; Platform; and Infrastructure. We feel that both security ad management are part of the other layers; they bleed into these other layers. Example. Application is typically known as the SaaS model. The SaaS vendor (e.g. XX) will most likely offer some level of security and/or management in it’s SaaS service.
Multi-tenancy enables sharing of resources and costs across a large pool of users thus allowing for: Centralization of infrastructure in locations with lower costs (such as real estate, electricity, etc.) Peak-load capacity increases (users need not engineer for highest possible load-levels) Utilization and efficiency improvements for systems that are often only 10–20% utilized.[17]
Security will always be at the forefront of the IT group; IT Director. However, with a portion of the enterprise on the cloud, any and all SPs will have excellent security measures in place – and specific to the information on the cloud (e.g. health care industry information compliance vs. financial industry information compliance – including the storage and backup of information.)
REWORK In a fully borderless network every component should be independently secure, requiring systems and data protection on multiple levels Rework to – For optimal security, a borderless network ensures that every component be independently secure; requiring systems and data protection on multiple levels.
Cloud Management has two sides to it. To provide context specific to this presentation, to you, the user and consumer of the cloud service, let me briefly explain what I mean by two sides. An SP will have built into its service offerings, e.g. PaaS, levels of security and management. (Reference the picture.) As the user of this service, when your test engineers deploy a new PaaS for their testing on Linux, the SP ensures that your test engineer has the highest level of security and manages that deployment. SP – builds in levels of management (SLAs) so that you, the user, are assured the optimal level of service, in this case, on demand provisioning in a short time frame for a specific (Linux) platform, which your test engineers may then put /install on top of that platform the software to be tested.
Management: touches SaaS; IaaS; PaaS; & security…. Agile – complete; full; thorough; blanket Page 74, Shapes In The Cloud Because Cloud Management is typically a SP offering, I would like to provide further context for the purpose, description, and features. Within your IT organization, you currently manage both IT services (e.g. the infrastructure such as servers, routers, and the support of those items,) and business services who use these IT services (thus the support to those business units through desktop support, etc.) management can be looked at as internal to your organization (e.g. the testing group) and management of the cloud service you are using/purchasing, e.g. SaaS, Paas, IaaS. As an organization you all ready provide management services, although today it is likely at a regional business unit level. Wth Cloud Mangeemnt, you now have a wider mgmt. range.
