English IV Second Quarter Project
I. Dante's Inferno
Inferno (1314) is the first part of Dante's epic poem, The Divine Comedy. It
depicts an allegorical journey through Hell and presents the medieval concept of
the afterlife-of the consequences and punishments of sins committed during
one's lifetime.
II. The second quarter project in English IV is a diorama of Inferno, worth 15% of
your total grade. The mechanics are as follows:
1. The students are to create a three-dimensional scale of Dante's Inferno per
class. The class will be divided into groups of Incontinence, Violence, and
Fraudulence. Each group shall elect a leader and an assistant leader who will
oversee the progress of the project and to whom the teacher shall coordinate
with every now and then regarding the project. The class shall also elect an
overall leader and assistant leader who will supervise the integration and
completion of the whole project.
2. The size of the diorama will be limited to 1m x 1m x 1m.
3. The students are strongly encouraged to recycle and reuse building materials.
4. Each class is allowed to spend, but a ceiling of P1000.00 shall be observed.
5. The eight dioramas will be pitted against each other. An additional recitation
grade of 3%, 2%, and 1% will be awarded to the first, second, and third place,
respectively.
6. Time-frame for the project is five (5) meetings.
7. On the sixth meeting, the students will be individually tasked to defend their
project by answering questions regarding the part of Inferno they worked on.
III. Documents to be submitted to the teacher:
1. Meeting 1: A list of students per group and their respective leaders and
assistant leaders signed by the overall and assistant leaders.
2. Meeting 5: Self-rating and Group Leader's rating. The overall leader shall rate
the leaders and assistant leaders. The teacher shall collect these from the
overall leader.
IV. Criteria for Grading
25% - Creativity
25% - Resourcefulness
20% - Faithfulness to Dante's concept of Hell
10% - Overall Impact/Presentation
10% - Defense
5% - Self-rating
5% - Group Leader's rating
100%
