Rationalism holds that some knowledge comes from intuition alone or can be deduced from intuitive knowledge. The intuition/deduction thesis claims that some propositions can be known intuitively and others deduced from them. The innate knowledge thesis says we have innate knowledge as part of our rational nature. The innate concept thesis says we have innate concepts. Empiricism claims all knowledge comes from experience, either external sense experience or internal reflection. Locke argued against innate ideas and said knowledge comes only from sensation and reflection on sense experiences. While rationalism and empiricism differ on the source of knowledge, some overlap exists between the views.
