Editor's Notes
We choose this topic because managing and utilizing budgets is a critical part of athletics. Fundraising provides almost 20% of a programs budget. So the support from fundraising donations can provide significant assistance to an athletic departments financial standing.
Division II- Susan Burton- Asso. A.D. There is not a position in the department that is dedicated to fundraising. Some assistance comes from the department, but most of the responsibility falls on the coaching staffs and volunteers. Example of fundraising initiatives include baseball&softball hit-a-thons, Football- Night of champions, lift-a-thon. Volleyball/Tennis, etc. Work the concessions to make that money for that nights game. JUCO- Coaches have full responsibility. Football is the only program that can fund majority of resources. Coaches and athletes are responsible for additional sources. No position for fundraising on staff.
Fundraising strategies can apply to all areas and levels of athletics. With budget cuts A.D. will still be expected to maintain the same expectations with less money. What I learned is that I can relate a lot of what we found to that area as well.
