Is it possible to write a program that significantly changes its behaviour during the runtime without changing its source code? Have you ever wondered about native TypeScript support in Node.js? Or whether it is possible to write JavaScript code that syntactically feels a lot different but is still valid? The answers to these and a lot of other questions will be discussed in detail in this talk. From the basics of metaprogramming theory to practical examples of its application in enterprise projects. We are going to talk about metalinguistic abstractions, domain-specific languages, and how they can help us solve software engineering problems. We will take a look at how popular frameworks and libraries like React.js, Express.js, Nest.js and Lodash use metaprogramming to develop systems that are used worldwide. Moreover, we will learn how to think in terms of metaprograms and broaden our outlook towards the great world of metasystems.

Everyone who wasn't writing JavaScript, probably is now. Atwood's Law: any application that can be written in JavaScript, will eventually be written in JavaScript. That's great, but how do we test it? In ColdFusion we have CFCs, most languages have classes... but JavaScript doesn't have classes (yet). So how do I write unit tests, what units are there, and how do I make my code look like that? JavaScript is a flexible language, and with great flexibility comes great complexity and responsibility. Take your JavaScript spaghetti and make it unit testable. Attendees should have some exposure to JavaScript, but this is for the Professional Newbie... who always needs to learn and adapt.

Writing a "Hello World!” application is always easy, and a Java developer can learn how to write it with JavaFX in some minutes. But if you want to create a productive application, knowledge of "Hello World!” isn't enough. A real application should be well structured, provide an automatic build that ends in usable artifacts, and contain only needed dependencies. In addition, such an application should be testable and maintainable. This session presents some general concepts regarding how you can create and structure a JavaFX application that can easily grow and become more complex without losing control of the code, functionality, and maintainability. At the end, each attendee will have a template to use to start creating JavaFX-based applications.

For much of its existence, JavaScript has been slow. No one complained until developers created complex web applications with thousands of lines of JavaScript code. Although newer JavaScript engines have improved the situation, there’s still a lot to understand about what makes JavaScript slow and what you can do to speed up your code.

AppFuse is an open source project/application that uses best-of-breed Java open source tools to help you develop web applications quickly and efficiently. Not only does it provide documentation on how to develop light-weight POJO-based applications, it includes features that many applications need out-of-the-box: authentication and authorization, remember me, password hint, skinnability, file upload, Ajax libraries, signup and SSL switching. This is one of the main features in AppFuse that separates it from the other "CRUD Generation" frameworks like Ruby on Rails, Trails and Grails. AppFuse is already an application when you start using it, which means code examples are already in your project. Furthermore, because features already exist, the amount of boiler-plate code that most projects need will be eliminated. In this session, you will learn Seven Simple Reasons to Use AppFuse. If you don't use it to start your own projects, hopefully you will see that it provides much of the boiler-plate code that can be used in Java-based web applications. Since it's Apache Licensed, you're more than welcome to copy/paste any code from it into your own applications. Also see article published at: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/java/library/j-appfuse/index.html

During this module you can download and play with a sample project that define a simple business process with some business rules. This module provides different tests that shows how to interact with our processes in different ways and how to test the behavior unit testing them.
